One of the most important things to consider when planning for a festival is where you’re going to lay your head at night. That’s where choosing the right tent comes in.

But with so many different options on the market, it can be overwhelming to figure out which one is the best fit for you and your crew. So, let’s break it down and make it easy for you.

First things first, consider the size of your group. Are you going solo or with a group of friends? If you’re with a group, make sure to choose a tent that can comfortably fit everyone and all of their gear.

Don’t forget about the porch area, this is where you’ll store your muddy boots or wet festival clothes separate from the main tent. A porch is vital in wet weather, otherwise you have to sleep next to your muddy stinky boots!

What Size Tent Do I Need for A Festival?

In general, a 4-person tent is designed to comfortably fit 4 average-size people… just. The size of the tent does not account for bags, luggage, backpacks, clothes and other items you may have. It may be a tight fit if you are also trying to fit in a lot of luggage and bags!

It’s always a good idea to check the dimensions of the tent and compare them to the size of your group and your gear to ensure that it will be a good fit. It’s always better to err on the side of caution and get a slightly larger tent than you think you need, rather than being cramped and uncomfortable.

Perfect For a Solo Festivalgoer

I am so impressed with this tent so far. It is perfect for a solo-festivalgoer and has just the right amount of space for you + your stuff!

The tunnel construction makes it super easy to set up and take down, which is great because the last thing you want is to spend all your time setting up camp.

And at just 4.5kg, it’s lightweight and easy to pack, so you can save your energy for dancing and enjoying the festival. The pack size is also perfect, it fits easily into my festival backpack.

The tent itself is roomy enough for me and my festival essentials, and the porch area is perfect for storing my boots and wet festival clothes. I also love that the door can be rolled up for a breeze or secured out using the included king poles to create a sun shade, so you can enjoy the festival vibes.

The breathable polyester inner and mesh door keeps the tent well ventilated, and the 3000mm hydrostatic head means it’s well protected against the British weather.

Overall, I’m super happy with this tent and would definitely recommend it to other festival-goers looking for a compact, easy to use option.

Great For Couples

The tent is lightweight and easy to pack, at 7kg it’s not too heavy to carry around. The Hydrostatic Head of 3000mm is a bonus, it keeps you dry even in heavy rain.

The porch area is a great size for storage, it’s perfect for keeping your muddy boots or wet festival clothes separate from the main tent.

The two ventilation flaps and inside pockets for storage make this tent even more functional. Plus, the porch groundsheet can be removed to dry if it becomes too rainy (rainwater does tend to pool in the porch area), making sure you don’t have a wet and muddy tent.

The tent has three doors, providing plenty of options for where you set up, and they help keep the tent ventilated throughout the festival. This tent is a great option for couples or small groups who are looking for a functional and easy to pack option.

With 3 people in here – it’s going to be a squeeze with all your bags etc too. This is absolutely perfect for 2 people.

At 9.02kg, it’s not the lightest tent out there but it is still easy to pack and carry around. The pack size is also great, it fits easily into my festival backpack.

The tent has two windows with roll down blinds, which is great for ventilation and natural light. The bright guy ropes are also a nice touch, they prevent tripping over in the dark. The Hydrostatic head of 3000mm keeps us dry even in heavy rain, so we don’t have to worry about getting our festival gear wet.

The tent is perfect for 3-4 people, including all your festival gear. It’s spacious and comfortable, making it perfect for a weekend of music and fun with friends or family. If you’re looking for a tent that’s easy to set up, has plenty of space and can keep you dry, this is the one for you.

This is my tent-of-choice for festival-ing with friends – one of the absolute best tents for music festivals available at the moment. Or, this is great for a couple camping together who want something a bit roomier than a 3-man tent.

The Zenobia 6 Nightfall Tent is perfect for socializing and partying. The central living area has plenty of space to relax and move about, making it perfect for hanging out with friends.

The tent has two doors, one on either side, so you don’t have to worry about someone setting up too close to you.

The tent also has two 3-man bedrooms at one end and the other, providing plenty of privacy. The bedrooms also have hanging storage pockets on the outside, which is great for keeping your festival gear organized.

The tent also has low and mid-level vents that help keep the air circulating and prevent condensation. And the Deluxe Pegs, with a coded location guide to help when putting up the tent, makes it easy to set up.

The Nightfall Bedrooms keep the light out, but also have a curtain that allows light in if you need it.

This is the ultimate tent for 4 people, but it’ll need at least 3 of you to help put this huge tent up! It’s also pretty heavy so you’ll need a strong pair of arms or a festival trolley to carry this tent any considerable distance.

Best Budget Popup Tent for Festivals

Purchase single skin pop up tents if you are going to a one or two night festival that will have decent weather, they are not the best but are great for ease of set up and convenience. They are not really suitable for bad weather or multiple days as they can get quite damp on the inside.

Best Tents for Music Festivals [Summer 2023] - Festival Source (12)

Eurohike pop 200

  • Hydrostatic Head 1500mm
  • Side door
  • Comes with pegs and guy lines
  • Large enough for one person and their stuff
  • Available in red, green or Blue

In a Pinch – A Popup Tent’ll Do!

We don’t usually recommend popup tents for festivals as they’re notorious for getting wet and battered by a gentle breeze.

Pop-up tents are single-skinned so they won’t keep you or your possessions dry in the rain. They’re also small and don’t give you much space to store your camping gear.

However, they are very light and quick to put up, so it’s not all bad! If you’ve got a weekend of fine weather ahead, a popup tent will be just fine for a small festival.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option for a one or two night festival and decent weather, a pop-up tent might be a good choice for you. But, keep in mind that they are not the best option for festivals. They are convenient and easy to set up but not suitable for bad weather over multiple days as they can get quite damp on the inside.

The Eurohike pop 200 is a good option if you are looking for a budget-friendly pop-up tent. It has a Hydrostatic Head of 1500mm, a side door, comes with pegs and guy lines, and it’s large enough for one person and their stuff.

If you’re planning on going to a festival for more than one night, or if you’re worried about bad weather, you might want to consider more comfortable options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Festival Tents

What Size Tent Do I Need for A Festival?

The most important thing to realise is that a 2-man tent does not comfortably sleep 2 people! You have to take into consideration your luggage and gear too.

So, if you’re thinking about getting a 4-person tent for your next music festival, but before you hit that “buy” button, let’s talk about what that really means.

When a tent is labelled as a “4-person” tent, it’s usually just referring to the number of people that can fit inside, but it doesn’t take into account all the other stuff you’ll be bringing with you. You know, like bags, luggage, backpacks, clothes and all that jazz. Trust me, you don’t want to be cramped up and uncomfortable at a festival.

So, before you make your purchase, take a look at the dimensions of the tent and compare them to the size of your group and all your gear. It’s always better to be safe than sorry and get a slightly bigger tent than you think you need. That way, you’ll have enough room to move around, store all your stuff and still have room to breathe. Believe me, a little extra space will make a world of difference.

Are Tents Waterproof?

Yes, tents can be waterproof. It’s just a matter of finding the right tent with the right features.

Some tents are designed to be more water-resistant than others, and the level of waterproofing can vary greatly depending on the brand and model.

One way to determine a tent’s level of waterproofing is by looking at its hydrostatic head rating. This rating measures the amount of water pressure a tent can withstand before water starts to leak through. The higher the rating, the more waterproof the tent is. Look for a tent with a hydrostatic head rating of at least 2000mm, this will ensure that you’ll stay dry even in heavy rain.

Tents made with a polyester or nylon flysheet and a groundsheet with a sewn-in bathtub design that stops rain, mud, and bugs from getting in.

It’s also worth checking for features like sealed seams, which help to keep water from seeping through the fabric. And, most importantly, make sure to choose a tent with a good ventilation system. This will help to keep the inside of the tent dry by preventing condensation from building up.

What Materials Are Tents Made From?

Tents are made from Nylon and Polyester. The tent poles are often made from fibreglass and the zips and windows are made of plastic.

Can You Leave Tents At The End Of A Festival?

Absolutely NOT. Tents should always be taken home with the person who brought it in.

Leaving your tents (or any other gear) behind is not only frowned upon, it’s actively discouraged by just about every major festival.

It takes a lot of time, effort, money, energy and resources to clean up after a festival, and tents are notoriously difficult to dispose of. And no, they don’t get donated to charity.

Tents are NOT single use items. Take your s**t home with you and leave no trace.

Is It Safe To Sleep In A Tent At A Festival?

Crime is very rare at festivals; out of the tens of thousands of people who attend, only a handful will fall victim to theft. However, opportunists are everywhere and as a festival-goer you should make it as hard as possible for those opportunists to get to you.

Here are some .

Quick tip: never padlock your tent! It’s just an invitation, not a deterrent!

Best Festival Tents: Final Thoughts

So, you’ve done your research and read all about the different types of tents available for music festivals. But, have you found the perfect tent for you yet?

When it comes to music festivals, you want to make sure you have a tent that can withstand the elements, but also one that’s comfortable and easy to set up.

A tent that’s too flimsy and you’ll be in for a rough weekend, but one that’s too big bulky and you’ll have to carry it for potentially long distances – festival car parks can often be a long walk from the gate, and an even longer walk to the campsite.

Carrying a tent that’s too heavy can ruin your weekend, leaving you with injured and pulled muscles – you don’t want that – trust me.

It’s important to find the right balance. And that’s why we recommend you buy a tent the exact size that you need for you, your friend(s) and all of your luggage/gear.

When you have your tent, make sure to take it for a test run in your garden first. The last thing you want is to get to the festival only to find a vital part missing!

In conclusion, don’t be afraid to invest a little bit of money and time into finding the right one for you.

With the right tent, you’ll be able to fully enjoy the festival, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
