Hypixel is a Minecraft server created in 2012 by Hypixel Inc., formerly a team of game developers. They are based in Quebec, Canada. After its initial launch in 2012, the Hypixel server substantially grew due to the variety of popular mini-games featured on it, along with frequent spotlights from popular YouTubers. The server features a multitude of designed and coded mini-games. There are 4 main teams that manage the server: the Administrator Team, the Event Team, the Build Team.

Games

Four teams or six fight each other for victory after 15 minutes of preparation. During preparation, the players will work as a team to collect resources, so he/she can build large fortifications as well as craft armor and weapons. Players get 11 maps to choose from. This game also features perks that can be bought from the store while players are in a lobby.

In Mega Walls, there are a total of 100 players, separated into 4 teams of 25. Players spend the first 10 minutes gathering resources, and building defenses for the team. Once the wall drops, the battle begins. Like Walls, diamonds can be found in the very center. Players can defend their Wither (Minecraft Mob, modified to allow players to respawn) that resides in the castle, attack enemy teams' withers or attack and kill other players. Once the team's wither is dead, players no longer respawn when they die. Kill the withers, and defeat the enemies. The player must be the last team standing to win the game.
Once all withers are dead (A team can win if their wither is still alive), death match is initiated. During deathmatch, players not in the center of the map will receive the hunger effect, eventually starving to death or being forced to venture to the center.

Each player/team spawns on their own island. The aim of Sky Wars is to be the last player or team alive. Kill players using a weapon or by knocking them off the map, into the void. With each kill players will be rewarded with a "soul". Souls are spent at the Soul Well, and are used to unlock different kits and perks.

Cops and Crims is based off the popular eSports shooter Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Using a custom resource pack, both teams arm themselves with guns, pistols, and even grenades.
The player must either defend the bomb sites or infiltrate the sites and plant the bomb. At the beginning of each round the player can buy him/herself new weapons.

Turbo Kart Racers is a fully fledged racing game inside Minecraft which puts the player in the driver seat in a race against 11 other players. During the game the player can pick up boxes that give him/her certain advantages in the race.
The game has 15 different kart skins to choose from and the player can also customize his/her kart with different particle trails, sounds, engines and more.

Warlords takes Minecraft minigames to the next level, featuring Hypixel's very own custom 3D textured weapons, custom sounds, and many other features within the custom resource pack. This minigame offers three different gamemodes. After battles have ended players can his/her weapons to attempt to gain one of custom 3D textured legendary weapons.

In this game the player gets to fight the opponent with a sword which has a special skill attached to help him/her take down his/her enemy. The player also needs to survive using special skills to boost his/her heal ability and some perks to defeat his/her opponent.
Players can choose to refine skills in 2v2 and rank up to find harder opponents or go for an all-out brawl in 4v4.

This is a free for all '''survival game''' with many maps varying between 16 and 32 players per round. In this game, the player uses a kit to take out his/her enemies in a fight for victory. The is a slight alteration: after 5 minutes the Blitz Star will be released. The one who finds it can use its power to use one of the many '''Blitz Attacks'''. In the end only 1 person can win and survive. If all opponents are not killed by a time limit, the game goes into '''deathmatch''' mode. There are three game types available: Solo (Kits), Solo (No Kits), and Teams (Kits). In team games, teams will be made of two players. Each team had their own label, being “[DIST 1-16]”.

The TNT Games are a casual gamemode involving fun and unique games to play; these games involve TNT.
Play with friends in Wizards to capture points or shoot them down in Bow Spleef. TNT Run which tests endurance and [[parkour]] skills. And lastly, TNT Tag brings the classic game of '''Hot Potato''' into Minecraft.

UHC Champions is a team-based game consisting of 3 players per team. Here, natural regeneration is off and the player can only heal by golden apples, potions, and by ingesting the heads of slain players.
This gamemode involves custom crafting recipes and perks to help survive in this hardcore world.

In this Hypixel game, the player will become either a vampire or a survivor in a map. As a vampire, the player chases the survivors and turn them into another vampire, and as a survivor, the player has to survive and run away from vampires.

In Quakecraft, the player's goal is to be the first to 25 points. When he/she reaches 25 points, he/she wins. The player must use his/her railgun and blast fireworks at the enemies to kill them. The players will gain coins and can use the coins to upgrade the railgun trigger to reduce the trigger cool down period. The player can also change how his/her railgun looks with different cases, the color, and size of the firework. Hats and different armor are also available to players.

Players are divided into two teams of varying colors which can be chosen by typing '/team (color)' in the waiting room. These teams have a varying number of starting lives, usually 120 (these are influenced by the godfather perk) , and the first team to reduce the other team's lives to 0, wins. There are multiple perks to buy and plenty of powerups players can purchase in-game. Every kill gives the player gold nuggets, which are the currencies of the powerups.

In this game, the player becomes one of many unique heroes and must unleash attacks in a Team or Solo battle to defeat all rivals. The player must smash his/her "rivak" out of the arena in order to win.

The Arcade Games lobby offers players a wide range of minigames which are played in a fast-paced style. Surviving hordes of zombies, fighting against the enemy team using beam swords or building the best plot.

Hypixel PC Online Store

The Hypixel PC Store is the place for players to buy enhancements for their Hypixel player experience or to donate to the server; Ranks (VIP, VIP+, MVP, MVP+), Mystery Boxes, Boosters, Companions, Bundles (Sets of enhancements), and Gifts are sold there. Payments there are handled and secured by PayPal, Paymentwall and Stripe.

Ranks are general player enhancements; they have quite notable perks.
The player's current rank’s value is automatically deducted from any future rank upgrade. This upgrade price automatically appears upon browsing the store page.

All Mystery Boxes purchased in the store do not require any rank to open, including 4 star and 5 star Mystery Boxes.

The following content can be found in Mystery Boxes:
* Suits: A suit is 4 pieces of in-game clothing, a vanity item.
* Housing Items: Used to further individualize personal plots in Housing.
* Gadgets: Vanity tools ike the Disco Ball or the Parachute.
* Hats: Another type of vanity item, a Minecraft helmet modified
* Morphs: Players can change into different mobs.
* Pets: In-game pets, for example Donkeys, Spiders, Creepers.
* Emotes: A helmet that expresses an expression.

To open Mystery Boxes, players go to one of the many Mystery Vaults in any lobby.

Network Boosters provide triple coins (3x) to everyone on the whole Hypixel Network for the specified minigame for a limited time.

The player's username will be shown to players in the coins gained message while playing. For example: “+20 Coins (Triple Coins! [PlayerName’s] Quakecraft Booster)” Players will get a shoutout in the game lobby when his/her Network Coins Booster is activated. For example: “AgentKid activated a Network Booster for 1 hour!” The booster is added to the player's booster inventory and activated like other boosters. To activate it, the player must access the booster inventory either by using the /booster command, or by accessing it through the profile menu (which can be accessed by using the head item while in any lobbies)
If there’s a Network Booster already active, boosters other players activated would be queued. The message thanking the player would still appear when it’s time for his/her booster to be activated, unless offline. For example: “Your Network Booster for Quakecraft was queued. It will activate in about 1 hours 12 minutes.”

Note: Network Boosters are consumables: once they are used once, they are gone.

Companions are unique “pets”; they are custom built. By clicking on the companion and opening the product description in the store to-be donators could take looks at the animations of the companions. The companions cost between USD$4.99 to USD$34.99; there are 13 companions altogether.

Bundles combine Boosters and Mystery Boxes. Each bundle also includes a banner (Available for a limited time only). There are altogether 6 Bundles altogether, and have a price range of USD$29.99 to USD$149.99.

Gifts are sets of Mystery Boxes that players send to other players.
Players can't open gifts he/she purchased; he/she must give them to a friend.
To send a gifts, go to one of the many Mystery Vaults in any lobby.
The in-game rewards players can claim are based on how many gifts players send, not how many Mystery Boxes were in them.
If a player send a gift pack of 5 mystery boxes, the player's “in-game milestone reward progression” goes up by 1. Prices range from USD$4.24 to USD$32.29.

Hypixel Player Record

On March 5, 2016, Hypixel broke another server's player record; with a total of 52,413 players online at the same moment. That server previously held a record of 40,000+ players online at the same instance. Currently there are over 700,000 players playing on Hypixel daily, and altogether over 8 million players that have logged onto Hypixel.

Hypixel Pocket Edition

On March 31st 2016, Hypixel ended the Hypixel Pocket Edition Alpha. The end of Alpha means we have to turn off the servers until the Beta phase. The servers will return in 2017 when they resume the Hypixel Pocket Edition.

It’s important to bear in mind that Minecraft Pocket Edition is itself still in Alpha. So technically, the Hypixel Pocket Edition is an Alpha of an Alpha. For those unaware, the term "Alpha" is a term used to indicate that software is still heavily in development and that the core feature set is not yet complete. During Alpha development, large technical overhauls can occur frequently and on a large scale.
It is quite difficult for Hypixel to keep up at this point, instead of adding games Hypixel was keeping up with technology that Minecraft was updating month to month. Not having to do network maintenance or administration means Hypixel would be able to spend more time developing the backend and making sure it would be ready for beta and avoid several rewrites over the later few months.

Secondly, the Minecraft server application for Pocket Edition (PocketMine or others) is still very much in development. Community created servers are what server networks are using on PE currently. On Hypixel's side, they've worked closely alongside Gurun to develop and support the MiNET project, which is one such community project and open source. They also then needed to create their own framework, custom games, backend tools and payment methods in order to make the Hypixel PE Project a success.
( I know, I have also ran a PE server once, and I understand the bugs and glitches in the software )

Minecraft Maps
Before Hypixel became a world-renown server, it began as a popular YouTube channel making Minecraft Maps. They can all be downloaded at the Hypixel website. Some of the maps are:

In the main server, there also is an Adventure Lobby. This Adventure Lobby features all of Hypixel's maps; which means players can play the maps in the server also, and don't need to download the map.

Hypixel Teams

Note: The administrator team includes Moderators and Helpers, but this sub-article is about the Admins.

There are many different roles that the Hypixel administrators fulfill. The most common one is developer. The developers make or update the games and manage server problems or improve other miscellaneous items.

The '''Event Team''' is a team on the network that consists of people from across the network that all have a common interest in mind: providing events for the community to interact more with each other and meet new people. For months, the Event Team was exclusive only to staff members, both for the planning and participation in events, but they then decided that they needed to get more involved with the players in our community. More people were added to the team and finally they opened up the events for the whole community to enjoy.

Event Team Subgroups:
A single team, but every member has their strengths. They are divided into subgroups that best shows our talents and work together based on categorized goals. Each team is in charge of its own set of responsibilities that, together, hold the whole team together and keep it flowing smoothly.

Karaoke Team
The Karaoke Team on Hypixel is a team of staff and players that host a weekly Karaoke event on the Hypixel Teamspeak. At Karaoke, players can sign up to sing with friends or by him/herself. This event occurs at 4:00 PM EST every Saturday on the Hypixel Teamspeak.

Build Team
The Event Team’s Build Team is responsible for building various structures and buildings players may find throughout events hosted by the Event Team. The future builds by the Event Team cannot be revealed at this time, but the Event Build Team is not affiliated with the Hypixel Build Team at all.

Document/Forums Team
The Document and Forums Team of the Event Team is in charge of writing the threads that are used to explain the events and making the documents that are used for submitting an entry into the events, or other types of documents used for Events on the network.

The Staff Team is in charge of creating and hosting various events for the Staff and Creative Staff teams. They are a very important factor to the staff team, as they help bring the team together. Without this team, considering the large size of the Staff team, many of the staff may not know each other. This team creates events to help the staff bond with each other.

Teamspeak Team
Karaoke is only one of the events they host on the Hypixel Teamspeak, and they occasionally host other events as well. This team is in charge of these events on the Hypixel Teamspeak, besides the Karaoke Event. When there’s a new event, it would be advertised in many different places such as Twitter and the Forums.
